Brixham Bowling Club – Captains Day

We were made very welcome by the club members and had a great time !

The following is courtesy of Chris Dawes – BBC member:

“Every year the Club Captains decide on a charity for which the club will raise money. This year Jenny Hopkins nominated the Marie Curie Care and Support Through Terminal Illness Charity. The first big fund raising event took place on Sunday 12th August. A lot of hard work went into organising the day which involved a range of Target Bowls challenges on the green, a cake stall, raffle, a buffet and a number of indoor fund raising activities. The weather forecast looked dire in the morning but the rain clouds broke up and the sun shone through to avert a potential disaster. Members turned out adorned in a range of yellow outfits (the Marie Curie charity colour) and a good afternoon was had by all. The Charity day was closed by the Riviera Ukulele band who took us all down memory lane performing songs catering for all age ranges from the 1950s to the 90s. There was concern that a couple of members might dislocate their ageing joints when trying to dance the twist but overall everyone was in good voice. Many thanks to the Ukulele Band who performed free of charge to support this popular charity. Money raised so far is £431 with more events to go.”

Torbay Lifeboat Fundraisers Summer Fayre – Update !

Excerpt from TLF Newsletter – August

“We began the month with our Fish Quay Market, and what a Market it was!   We had beautiful weather and lots of customers.   It was the most successful market to date raising £2,023!   My lasting memory of the day will be the Riviera Ukulele band playing for us whilst a group of very young children sat on the ground next to them, joining in with the singing for a short while.

Thank you to all our TLF members who ‘manned’ the stalls, all our cake bakers/jam makers,  and of course the Riviera Ukulele Band.”

On the 22nd April 2018, Dan Hallam will be running the Virgin London Marathon. Training so far has involved nearly 200 miles in March and over 400 miles since January, numerous gym sessions, sports massage and lots of carbohydrates. The weather hasn’t been the kindest with one of the long 18 mile practice runs being memorable for the 4 inches of snow that started to fall half way through.

Through the support of the club and RUB’s audience, Dan has raised nearly £400 for the RNLI. At some point, any one of us or our family might need their support – at the beach, walking along the coast or out at sea. If you would like to donate what you can to help support the RNLI and its volunteers, please visit Dan’s page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/dan-hallam1
Ed’s Note – “We are right behind you !  He is 11256 !”
